QUESTION POSED ON: 02 April 2008
Do you have a example of how to retrieve a AS/400 data area into Crystal Reports?

>
EXPERT RESPONSE
I don't have a coding example. However, you would need to create either an external stored procedure or an external user-defined function to do this since Crystal Reports can't access a data area directly. The external procedure or function allow you to invoke any high-level language program -- the program would retrieve the value from the data area and then just return the value to the invoker of the procedure or function.

The IBM Redbook Stored Procedures, Trigger and User-Defined Functions on DB2 UDB for iSeries has several examples of external routines.
