The two most important details to configure correctly when connecting an HP LaserJet (or any ASCII) printer are that you correctly identify the printer to the iSeries via a WorkStation Customization Object and that you use the correct port on the iSeries printer device description. When you issue the "create printer device" command (CRTDEVPRT) make sure you choose the port as recommended by IBM:

 LAN attachment . . . . . . . . . > *IP *LEXLINK, *IP, *USRDFN
 Port number . . . . . . . . . . > 9999 0-65535
 Online at IPL . . . . . . . . . *YES *YES, *NO
 Font:
   Identifier . . . . . . . . . . > 11 3, 5, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19...

Choose the correct manufacturer type and model information:

Manufacturer type and model . .
 Paper source 1 . . . . . . . . . *MFRTYPMDL *MFRTYPMDL, *LETTER...
 Paper source 2 . . . . . . . . . *MFRTYPMDL *MFRTYPMDL, *LETTER...
