QUESTION POSED ON: 26 July 2005
We upgraded our iSeries to V5R3 recently and we are suffering intermittent errors in SQL Server DTS packages. That is packages which have worked successfully for years now work for six out of seven days or every other day.

We are receiving the following error message:

[IBM][iSeries Access ODBC Driver][DB2 UDB]PWS0001 - Function did not complete successfully. Error source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers Help file: Help context: 0 DTSRun OnError: DTSStep_DTSExecutePackageTask_1, Error = -2147220440 (80040428) Error string: DTSStep_DTSExecutePackageTask_1: (2:ODS_agRepICBS_Account) SubStep 'DTSStep_DTSDataPumpTask_3' failed with the following error:... Process Exit Code 1. The step failed.
The Client Access ODBC version being used is V5R2. Can you advice us on this situation?

I can not determine from the message the exact reason for the failure. However, here are two things you need to do:

  • Upgrade iSeries access to version 5.3 -- it has better support for OLEDB.
  • Delete all relevant SQL packages from the iSeries (or go to the data source and set the extended dynamic property to no.)
  • That should help.
