QUESTION POSED ON: 23 May 2005
We are upgrading from iSeries 820 version 5.2 to 520 version 5.3. We have been using MS-DOS PCs with DOS-based PC Support with version 5.2 with no problems. Do you know of anything in version 5.3 related to DOS that should change any of that? We hope within the next three years to have all DOS machines out. But for now I have 20. They work fine for our warehouse and factory, but we plan to upgrade soon.

Please let me know if you know of any issues other than "IBM Don't Support". That we know. We don't need the support, just for it work.

Indeed formal IBM answer is that the DOS PCSupport is not under formal support starting from V5R2M0. That means no one will ever listen to you if you have a problem. Saying that, I can tell you I have several customers using PCSupport DOS with version 5.3 with the following services:

* Router (connection)
* Folders
* data queue support.

It is up to you to decide if you are willing to take the risk (personally I'd be surprised if you have any problems on version 5.3 and DOS).
