QUESTION POSED ON: 25 February 2005
We want to set up our iSeries 810 to have 5250 emulation access via the Internet. For example, we would like a remote user to be able to be at his computer and be dialed into his ISP and have access to a sign-on screen on our system. I don't know where to start or how to secure it. Can you point me in the right direction?

One may set remote emulation via web using products (An example is Ericom WebConnect. Here's how it works:

  • User connects to HTTP server using SSL -- the http server us in the DMZ.
  • The HTTP server connects to the iSeries using telnet.
  • The user gets the emulation screen in the browser.
  • Connectivity from the browser to the iSeries is via the HTTP server.
