QUESTION POSED ON: 08 February 2005
We are leveraging iSeries legacy applications (COBOL/CL/RPG) by porting them to the Web browser. I am in charge of building all the Java code to present to the users through the Web browser. I'm using PCML to call legacy applications. I understand all connections to the iSeries are handled by the QUSER/QZRCSRVS profile. From what I somewhat understand, this QUSER profile is supposed to "adopt" the authorities of the calling user. If this is not correct, how do you use the authorities, job description and/or library list of a given user?

You're right. Based on the user profile used in JT400 to log on to the iSeries ( the AS400 System object), the host service running under QUSER profile as a prestart job will adopt authority of the user specified in the iSeries connection object.

Of course, the user profile you log on with can set a job description or library list. Another thing I've done that's even more flexible -- use a CL command invoked via SQL CALL statement to add or remove libraries on the fly to an SQL server job.
