QUESTION POSED ON: 23 November 2004
I currently have VB 6.0 applications that access Oracle databases and write the data to an iSeries. We have a growing need to access Oracle data and would like to move away from the VB applications and use RPG with embedded SQL. It looks like DB2 Information Integrator would be a good solution, but I am not sure exactly what is needed. Is the full suite of products needed? I also need to broaden this to access data on SQL Servers.

The iSeries is a model 830 with three processors. One quote I got indicated that three replication products are needed, two connectors are needed, and a developer's license for each programmer. Is this correct?

DB2 Information Integrator (DB2 II) would be a good fit for your situation.

I agree that you need two connectors. The replication products would only be needed if you want to be able to synchronize data between the different platforms in addition to accessing non-DB2 data with embedded SQL. I don't know why you would need a developer's license for each programmer. Your embedded SQL programmers don't even need to know that DB2 II exists.

The Heterogeneous Data Access white paper has some examples showing how to use DB2 II. You can view the white paper here.
