Try looking in the QHST log (DSPLOG) for a PWRDWNSYS command being issued. You should see the log with the syntax similar to:
'PWRDWNSYS command was issues by XXX' where xxx is the user who issued the command. The only time an iSeries will shut down is when there is a problem, such as out of disk space, or it senses a power failure and the batteries are not able to sustain the system any longer. Those are the only two scenarios that I am aware of where the iSeries will shut itself down.
