Hmmmm... Second question first... Let's see, advantages of OS/400 (i5/OS) over Linux... Would you believe me if I were to say I don't have enough time or space to list them all here? Ha!
All kidding aside, that's not to say there isn't a place for Linux in your company's operating environment, though. In fact, I would expect to see more iSeries/i5 based companies implement both of these operating systems rather than just implementing Linux. But it all depends on the applications you plan to run. Some may be more suited to Linux, and some may be more suited to OS/400. You may want to pick the applications you require first and then pick the platform (hardware and OS) they are designed to run on, second.
