QUESTION POSED ON: 14 March 2005
We are leveraging iSeries legacy applications (COBOL/CL/RPG) by porting them to the Web browser. I'm in charge of building all the Java code to present to the users through the Web browser. I'm using PCML to call legacy applications. I understand that all connections to the iSeries are handled by the QUSER/QZRCSRVS profile. But from what I somewhat understand, the QUSER profile is supposed to "adopt" the authorities of the calling user. If this is not correct, how do you use the authorities, job description and/or library list of a given user?

You're right. Based on the user profile used in JT400 to logon to the iSeries ( the AS400 System object), the host service running under QUSER profile as a prestart job will adopt authority of the user specified in the iSeries connection object.

Of course, the user profile you log on with can set a job description or library list. Another thing I've done that's even more flexible is to use a CL command invoked via SQL CALL statement to add or remove libraries on the fly to an SQL server job.
