If you use SAVSYS and SAVLIB *NONSYS in your CLP, you will still
have to place the system in a "restrictive" state to run your program. You
won't be able to submit this job to batch and have it run correctly. In
this case you might as well stick to using Option 21 from the SAVE menu.
There are lots of wonderful third-party backup/restore solutions on the
market -- BRMS and Help Systems, to name a few. I would recommend that you
seriously look into acquiring one of these packages to help automate your
backup process. One of the biggest reasons for using these products is that
they also provide a structured, and well documented, process for recovering
your data in the event of a disaster. They have processes that audit your
system to make sure you are saving everything, too.
In my opinion, you really don't want to "re-invent the wheel" when it comes to
backup/restore on the iSeries.
Also, whatever you decide to do. Test, test and retest your recovery
procedures to insure that you can use your backups to recover your system.
You don't want your first test to be an actual disaster where you discover
that you didn't saving everything! ==================================
