When was the last IPL performed?

There's a couple of ways to check when the last time your system was IPLed. You can check for these Message IDs in the history log using the DSPLOG command:

CPI0C04
CPF0903
CPF0934

These Message IDs will show up if the last IPL was abnormal (i.e., due to a power outage or system crash):

CPF0997
CPF0998
CPI091D

If you haven't IPL-ed in a long time and these messages have been purged from the history log, you can check the Licensed Internal Code Logs within the System Service Tools. The steps to check them are:

1. Enter "STRSST"
2. Enter the correct Service Tools User ID & password
3. Select Option 1 "Start a service tool"
4. Select Option 5 "Licensed Internal Code log"
5. Select Option 1 "Select entries from the Licensed Internal Code"
6. Tab to the field named "Major code" and enter "0500".
7. The most recent entry indicates the last time your system IPL-ed or was powered up.

• To show the up-time of our iSeries systems and AS/400's, I use the following code snippet to determine when the system started and put a message into the message file that drives our sign on display. This may suffice as a programmatic way to determine when the system was last IPL-ed and directed to other than a message file. -- Tom Westdorp
