What would I need to acquire a management position?

I work in a one-man shop. I am responsible for everything computer-related from RPG programming, operations, peer-to-peer networking, to PC troubleshooting. I would like to have a job in management. Would the Master's of Business Administration degree be of any value if I applied for a management position at larger shop? If so, which MBA? Also, what is your opinion of a MBA obtained on-line?


We review MANY resumes and very few have even a Bachelor's degree. YES, an MBA would open doors if you are ultimately looking for management in a larger organization. I would rank a "traditional" MBA as most important followed by an "Executive" MBA and an "online" MBA as a last resort. Stay hands-on and current with the latest technologies.

An MBA is a lot of work, but well worth it.
