Q

Primary group authority: How it works

If you're wondering if primary group authority impacts the system performance of your AS/400, Carol Woodbury provides insight into how this setting works on the System i.

Can you explain how Primary Group Authority works? Does that have any impact on system performance over assigning the group to the private authority of an object?
Primary group authority has the same affect as granting the group a private authority. It actually has a slight performance benefit because the authority is kept with the object. (Private authorities are kept in the users' profile.) Also, primary group authority is checked before a group's private authority in the System i authority checking algorithm.
