My Java is either corrupt or installed incorrectly. How do I fix the problem? I've visited the Microsoft site and it no longer provides the service due to legal reasons.

You're right. In July, Microsoft stopped shipping their old JVM. That's the risk of dealing with large companies on proprietary software! Microsoft's JVM implementation WAS NOT standard.

If someone else had a copy of the old downloads you could get it from them. I don't have a copy available either.

Your options are:

1. Find a copy of the old JVM download.

2. Use a Sun JVM for Windows, which is a free download from Java.sun.com

- this JVM DOES NOT support COM directly like the Microsoft JVM does. You would need JNI interfaces built to COM components.

- This JVM is generally faster with updated Java support than Microsoft's back level version (JDK 1.1.4)

3. Convert to another Microsoft language for your applications

Restoring Microsoft JVM after installing Sun J2E

So you've upgraded your Netscape 6 browser's Java and are now experiencing trouble with IE? Internet Explorer runs much more efficiently under the Microsoft JVM. Please follow these instructions to re-configure your browser.

Win 95/98/NT/2000:

Click "Start"
Go to "Settings", "Control Panel", "Java Plug-in 1.3.x or 1.4.x"
Click the Browser tab
De-select the box beside Microsoft Internet Explorer
