How to save HMC critical data through the console

What setting do you need when doing a remote backup through the HMC console? When I use the save option 21, it ends the subsystems and drops the connection. I am using the company intranet to access the HMC console.
You are talking about two different things here. The HMC console backup is initiated from the HMC console, not from the iSeries via save option 21.
