When a connection is made to the iSeries, (ODBC etc via TCPIP) a job by default (named QZDASOINIT) is started. Is there a way we can spawn a job that has a different job name and attributes such as run priorities?

There is no way that I know of to change the job name or spawn this process as a thread or mutex. You could change the run priorities, but this might have an adverse impact on the rest of your system, as you would have to change an IBM-Supplied *CLS object to do it.
